Area organizations are hosting several public ceremonies this Memorial Day, May 30, to honor military service members who have died while in service to their country. Community members are invited to attend any or all of the ceremonies.
American Legion Daniel Boone Post 180, Marthasville, will host its annual Memorial Day service on May 30. The program will begin at 11 a.m. Mr. Bryan Spencer, former representative to the Missouri State Legislature, will be the guest speaker. There will be a roll call of deceased veterans who were members of Post 180. There will be military honors with the honor guard, gun salute, and taps.
Following the program, all are invited to stay for a carry-in meal. Meat and drink are provided by the Post 180 Auxiliary.
Local organizations including members of VFW Post 2180, the Warren County Marine Corps League, and the Warrenton Elks Club will host a Memorial Day tribute on Monday, May 30. Activities will begin at 11 a.m. at the Tribute to Veterans Memorial in Warrenton with Taps and a rifle salute.
Activities will then move to the Elks Lodge at 11:30 with presentation of the colors and a featured speaker, followed by a free meal provided by the Elks Club.
Community members are invited to attend a Memorial Day service at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30, beneath the flagpole at the Wright City Cemetery.
Each year, volunteers work to line the roads of the cemetery with avenues of full-size American flags in order to honor and bring attention to the military veterans who are buried within the cemetery grounds. Memorial Day gatherings are a time to reflect on the sacrifice of veterans who died while serving in the military.
