2021 is shaping up to be an interesting election year already, with a second challenger announcing his intent to unseat a local mayor.
Gene Jenkins, former police chief and alderman for the city of Marthasville, has registered run for mayor in the April municipal elections. Jenkins was chief when the city eliminated its police department, and was thereafter elected in 2018 to a two-year term.
Jenkins resigned his alderman post two months early this spring, in part because of a non-prosecution agreement related to his conduct as police chief. The agreement, signed in December 2019, forbade Jenkins from running for public office for one year.
The city of Warrenton also has a competitive mayoral race, where two candidates filed for election on the opening day of filing. Resident Sheryl Cullom is challenging current Mayor Eric Schleuter.
The office of mayor and three board of aldermen seats will be up for election, each for two-year terms.
This week, incumbent Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch filed to run for re-election.
Auch has a challenger this year in political newcomer Steven Cullom. Also on the ballot so are incumbent Eric Schleuter and challenger Sheryl Cullom running for mayor, and Josh Poore running for alderman of Ward 1.
Incumbent Ward 3 Alderman Gary Miller has not yet registered.
Current Ward 1 Alderman Cheryl Dyer has previously stated she does not intend to run for re-election.
Candidate registration will be accepted at Warrenton City Hall, 200 W. Booneslick. Candidates must schedule an appointment by calling 636-456-3535.
Two seats on the board of education are up for election for three-year terms.
New candidate Jeffrey Schneider filed to run for election this week. He’ll join incumbent board member John Clinger on the ballot.
Incumbent Chad Smith has not yet registered.
Candidates may file at the Warren County R-III Central Office, located at 385 W. Veteran Memorial Parkway, Warrenton.
Two board of directors seats will be elected to six-year terms.
No one new joined the race this week. Stacey Blondin and former member James Sharp will be on the ballot, while incumbents Malissa Booth and Bill Abel have not registered.
Candidates may file at Warrenton Fire Protection District headquarters, 606 Fairgrounds Road, Warrenton.
Two board of directors seats, one each from sub-district 2 and sub-district 5.
No candidates have yet made an appearance to fill these seats.
Candidates may file to run for office at the Warren County Clerk’s Office, 101 Mockingbird Lane, Warrenton.
Two board of aldermen positions will be elected to two-year terms.
No new candidates entered the race this week. On the first day of filing last week, incumbents Kerry Lambright, Ward 1, and Nathan Rohr, Ward 2, were joined by Donald Andrews running for Ward 1.
Candidates may file at Wright City Hall, 636 Westwoods Road.
Two board of education seats with three-year terms are up for election.
No new candidates filed for office in the last week.. Incumbents David Mikus and Erin Williams signed up for re-election last week.
Candidates can register at the superintendent’s office, 90 Bell Road, Wright City.
The office mayor and two board of aldermen seats will each be elected to two-year terms.
Former police chief and alderman Eugene Jenkins has registered to compete for the office of mayor. Current Mayor David Lange has filed for re-election.
No candidates have registered yet for the alderman races, including incumbents Dan Grafrath, East Ward, and Leo Meyer, West Ward.
Candidate filing may be done at Marthasville City Hall, 402 E. Main St.

No candidates have yet made an appearance to fill these seats.

Three seats on the Village Board of Trustees will be elected to two-year terms.
Newcomer Rick Clarkston has signed on to run for a position on the board. He will join current Trustees Jeff Thomsen and Trish Dunn on the ballot.

Candidates may file at Village Hall, 1835 Highway F, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
