A man who took boxes of household items from a food pantry in Wright City has been charged with burglary and stealing, according to Warren County court records.
Alexander D. Long, 31, of Warrenton, is wanted for the charges after a warrant was issued for his arrest July 22. The charges stem from an alleged break in April 18 at the Wright City Community Food Pantry outside the Church of the Nazarene.
A Wright City Police report states officers were contacted by a church employee after 10:30 a.m. April 18 to investigate a suspicious male. A responding officer found Long at the property.
Nearby were two boxes of various cleaning supplies, clothing and children’s items, which Long had apparently taken from the modular building housing the food pantry on the church’s property. Long reportedly said someone told him he could take anything he wanted from the modular building, and admitted to being inside.
A representative of the church said he was not familiar with Long and that Long did not have permission to be on the property, according to police.
The burglary charge against Long is a Class D felony. The stealing charge is a misdemeanor. The warrant for Long’s arrest includes authorization for release on his own recognizance once he has been booked at the Warren County Jail.
