Longtime 12th Circuit Chief Juvenile Officer Bruce McKinnon has retired after 28 years of service with the Juvenile Office.
“Bruce’s dedication to the well-being of children and families in Audrain, Montgomery and Warren counties cannot be overstated,” said Presiding Judge Jason Lamb. “On behalf of the Court en Banc, we are extremely grateful for his leadership of the Juvenile Office.”
Judge Lamb recognized McKinnon during a retirement celebration on April 1 at the Audrain County Courthouse with McKinnon’s family and colleagues in attendance. McKinnon was also honored with a proclamation from Gov. Mike Parson and received praise from Chief Deputy Juvenile Officer Ed Hoover on behalf of his co-workers.
Judge Lamb also recognized McKinnon’s leadership and contribution as key to the Circuit Court’s recent receipt of the Permanency Award from the Supreme Court of Missouri. The award recognizes the court’s consistent timely hearings for child abuse and neglect cases.
This is the second consecutive year the circuit has qualified for the award recognizing the leadership and hard work of local court stakeholders who work every day to protect and ensure stability for children who suffer from abuse and neglect.
“We are fortunate to have a strong commitment from our Juvenile Office, Family Support Team from the Children’s Division and the local attorney team members,” said Judge Lamb. “Ensuring the immediate safety and well-being of children within the circuit is a shared priority.”
The award will be displayed at the Audrain County Courthouse in honor of McKinnon’s contributions to the local juvenile justice system.
Judge Lamb has asked Senior Judge Roy Richter to lead a Juvenile Office Community Assessment Team composed of stakeholders throughout the circuit prior to appointing a new chief juvenile officer. Hoover will serve as interim chief juvenile officer.
