The Wright City Lady Wildcats pounded 15 hits in their senior night win over Hermann earlier this week.
Wright City (8-15) beat Hermann 17-2 in four innings Monday. The Wildcats scored 14 runs in the first two innings in the win. They scored nine runs on eight hits in the opening frame. They added five runs in the second inning, capped by Lydia Clubb’s home run. She has 12 home runs on the season, which is a school record.
“The last four games, we’ve just had really good pitchers,” Wright City softball coach Fred Ross said. “We’ve really been geared and focusing on watching balls in practice against these good pitchers and we were scoring against them. This girl threw pretty good but pretty wild. And when she was in the zone, not much movement. We were waiting for something in the zone to hit. We attacked her really well.”
Emma Staats recorded three hits, including a double and triple, in the win. She scored three runs and had two RBIs. Clubb led the Lady Wildcats with five RBIs and scored three runs. Clubb, Tristyn Moore, Tori Orf and Sophia Wegrzyn all had two hits. Every Wright City batter recorded at least one hit in the win.
Emma Thomas scattered seven hits over four innings. She allowed two runs. Thomas struck out three Hermann batters.
Wright City split a pair of games over the weekend. The Lady Wildcats beat Southern Boone 5-4 before falling to Mexico 12-2. Emma Thomas had the walkoff RBI in the win over Southern Boone.
“We took an early lead against Southern Boone,” Ross said. “They’ve won 10 or 12 games. They’re a pretty good team. And then they came back and tied us up. Emma Thomas had the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh and won the game, so it was a walkoff. That was pretty cool.”
Paige Rees had three hits in Wright City’s win over Southern Boone. Staats and Wegrzyn each had two hits. Thomas led the Lady Wildcats with two RBIs. Clubb scored two runs in the win. Thomas picked up the win on the mound. She allowed one earned run in seven innings.
The Lady Wildcats beat Van Far 10-5 Tuesday.
Wright City is slated to begin district tournament play next week.
