Despite finishing 8-12 in the 2020-2021 season, the Warrenton girls basketball team has reason for optimism in the 2021-2022 season after graduating just one player last season — Malea Payne.
Head coach Greg Williams believes that despite a tough schedule, the Warriors are built to compete.
“We have a challenging schedule that will have us prepared for the postseason,” he said. “We bring back Kendall Taylor (junior), Garneisha Love (senior), Zoe Klaus (junior), Dana Pruitt (senior), Isabel Benke (sophomore), Kaylin Haas (senior), Audrey Payne (junior), Kaelyn Meyer (junior), and Naveah Hill (sophomore). Garneisha Love and Audrey Payne were All-Conference selections last year.”
The strong schedule is something that Williams thinks will have his team ready to make a postseason run.
“We believe that competing against quality opponents will be helpful to postseason success,” he said. “We have added competition to our home tournament and it will be a very competitive field. We will begin conference play at St. Charles West and that will be an important contest for the conference title right away. Our district will have a majority of St. Louis area schools and we are up for that challenge.”
