State Rep. Jeff Porter of Montgomery City is set to lead the efforts of the Missouri House as it looks for ways to improve the state’s aging transportation infrastructure. Porter was recently named by House Speaker Rob Vescovo to serve as the chair of the House Transportation Committee for the 2022 legislative session.

Porter represents all of Montgomery County, as well as Warrenton and Marthasville in Warren County. He moves up to the top spot from his previous role as the vice chair of the transportation committee. Vescovo said Porter’s experience as vice chair and his familiarity with the issues facing Missouri’s transportation system make him the ideal candidate to lead the committee.

The House Committee on Transportation is responsible for all bills relating to the Department of Transportation; all means of transportation, including roads, highways, bridges, ferries, airports, railroads. The committee also considers legislation relating to motor vehicles and traffic regulations. As chair of the committee, Porter will preside over committee hearings and be responsible for all legislation referred to the committee.

Transportation has always been a strong interest of mine, and with Missouri being near the top of the list for most miles of roads and highways, it’s clear that our transportation infrastructure plays a major role in making our economy thrive and prosper,” said Porter. “We know we have important decisions to make to ensure the viability of our roads and bridges for future generations, and the state is fortunate to have new revenue sources to tap into, but we want to do our best to make sure taxpayers get the best results for their dollars in a fiscally responsible manner.”
