Innsbrook adds new rules for event permits

Posted

The village of Innsbrook is stepping up its requirements for organizations that want an exemption from noise regulations in order to hold special events.

Under an ordinance passed by the Village Board of Trustees March 10, any organization seeking a noise exemption for an event — a fireworks show, for example — will need to submit a much more substantial application than previously required, to be turned in at least 60 days before the event. Requirements added to the application include more detailed information about the event and the organizer.

The ordinance emphasizes that the board of trustees has sole discretion to approve or place additional conditions on noise rule exemptions. It also prohibits any group from using the name “Village of Innsbrook” in any event promotion without the board of trustees’ permission.

The vast majority of special events that require a noise exemption are hosted by the privately owned Innsbrook Corporation.

Board of Trustees Chairman Jeffrey Thomsen said the new requirements are to that ensure trustees are informed about who is running events. He said the prohibition around the Village of Innsbrook name was because of a past event that incorrectly implied the village government was involved with a fireworks show.

Village Administrator Carla Ayala said no noise complaints were received regarding events in 2020.
