Edwin John "Bud" Guenther

Mr. Edwin John "Bud" Guenther Jr. of Marthasville, MO, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022.  He was born March 2, 1925 in St Louis, MO, to the late Edwin and Dorothy (Nee: Call) Guenther.  He had reached the age of 97 years.

Bud, a World War II veteran, joined the U.S. Navy on July 28, 1943 and served as a machinist on a submarine with tours to South America and Australia. He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1945.  He achieved the rank of Seaman Second Class and was awarded the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Philippine Liberation Medal. After the war, he attended Washington University where he studied drafting and went on to work as a draftsman for McCabe Powers until he retired at the age of 60. He married the love of his life, Beverly Iris Bottoms May 10, 1952 in St Louis, MO, and to this union, they had 3 boys, David, John and James.  Bud liked Big Band Music and woodworking. He was also a very talented artist and wood carver. Bud was always available to each of his three sons while they constructed their own families homes offering both physical and experienced help. He will be missed by everyone that knew him including the staff and other veterans at the St. James Veterans Home.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Dorothy; loving wife, Beverly.  He is survived by his three children, David Guenther and wife Wendy, John Guenther and wife Toni, James Guenther; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca, Jonathan, Jessica, Clinton, Paul, Emily; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Macie, Shay; many other friends and family.
