Donald W. Sanker of Jonesburg passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 at the age of 82.
Don was born on April 19, 1940, in Warrenton to Julius and Mildred Sanker nee Feuring. Don was united in marriage to Sharon James-Hauskins on June 3, 1961, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Jonesburg, and they were married for 61 years.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, of Jonesburg; son, Darryl, and wife, Lynda, of Jonesburg; three daughters, Sheryl and husband Don O’Keefe of Kansas City, Sheila and husband Mike Reichert of Kansas City, and Susan and husband Dorsey Stotler of Montgomery City; sister, Judy Williams of Warrenton; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Don is preceded in death by his father, Julius Sanker; mother, Mildred Sanker; father-in-law, Thomas Hauskins; mother-in-law, Darlyne Hauskins; and brother-in-law, Terry Williams.
Don graduated from Montgomery County R-II in 1958. He attended Rivet School at McDonnell Douglas and worked for McAlpine Awning in Creve Coeur, MO, before starting his own business. He owned and operated Sanker Awning and Siding Company out of Jonesburg for 43 years before retiring.
He was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jonesburg. Don enjoyed life; he took pride with his gardening skills and enjoyed hunting. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan, a pastime he shared with his children. He was passionate about fishing and enjoyed many years in the Loutre Valley Bassmaster’s Club. Don was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Sep. 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jonesburg, with funeral services to immediately follow. Interment will take place at Jonesburg City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Helen Reagan Cancer Fund in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O.
