There will be races for the mayoral offices in Warrenton and Marthasville, a three-way contest for two Warrenton school board seats, and a slew of competitions for alderman seats in Warrenton and Wright City.
Tuesday was the last day for candidates to register their names in the April 6 municipal elections. Leadership of local cities, school boards and emergency districts will be decided.
Here are the electoral candidates running for office:
• Mayor — Incumbent Eric Schleuter is facing a challenge from Sheryl Cullom, who would be new to local public office.
• Alderman, Ward 1 — Three new candidates have piled in to run for an open office. Newcomers Christine Jaseckas, Larry Corder and Mark Andert all added their names in the last week. They join candidate Joshua Poore, making it a four-way race.
Incumbent Cheryl Dyer chose not to seek re-election.
• Alderman, Ward 2 — Incumbent Gary Auch is being challenged by newcomer Steven Cullom.
• Alderman, Ward 3 — A new challenger has filed to run. Jeff Jaspering will challenge incumbent Gary Miller.
One new entry into the race for two school board seats makes it a competition. Newcomer Deanna Zwyers has registered her candidacy to compete against incumbent John Clinger and first-time candidate Jeff Schneider.
Incumbent Chad Smith isn’t seeking re-election.
Both board of directors incumbents up for re-election, Malissa Booth and Bill Abel, have chosen to bow out, making room for two new directors to enter unopposed. Stacey Blondin and former board member Jim Sharp are the only candidates for the two seats.
William Ehlenbeck and Charles Dempsey are unchallenged for two seats on the board of directors.
• Alderman, Ward 1 — Three people are now jostling for the Ward 1 alderman seat. Robert Hamlin has added his name to the contention, joining incumbent Kerry Lambright and newcomer Donald Andrews.
• Alderman, Ward 2 — Meanwhile, in Ward 2, incumbent Nathan Rohr is running unopposed.
Incumbents David Mikus and Erin Williams are unopposed to retain their seats on the school board.
• Mayor — Incumbent David Lange will face off in an election against Eugene Jenkins, who formerly served as an alderman and police chief.
• Alderman, West Ward — There are actually fewer candidates here this week. City Hall staff report that Pam Jensen is withdrawing from the election, leaving incumbent Leo Meyer to run unopposed.
• Alderman, East Ward — Incumbent Dan Grafrath is running unopposed.
Only one of two seats on the board of directors had a candidate file, election officials said. Arlie Berg will run unopposed to represent Subdistrict 5, but no candidate registered for Subdistrict 2.
• Mayor — Incumbent Chris Watson is alone on the ballot.
• Alderman — Incumbents Robert Green and Jerry Cannon are unchallenged for their two seats.
The race for the board of trustees gained a candidate and lost a candidate this week. Village officials said newcomer Rick Clarkston has withdrawn his candidacy, while fellow newcomer Dan Reuter emerged to fill the void.
He will join incumbents Jeff Thomsen and Trish Dunn on the ballot for three trustee seats. Incumbent Cynthia Bowers is not seeking re-election.
