Community Garden offers Extension and Master Gardener classes

The Truesdale Community Garden, a partnership between Warren County MU Extension, Warren County Master Gardeners, and the city of Truesdale, is offering low-cost garden beds and in-person education for Warren County residents who are interested in growing their own produce.

The garden, located at the corner of Conrad Circle and Laura Street, provides individual plots of garden beds, allowing individuals and families to have their own plots to care for and take home the produce they grow. The program aims to empower individuals regardless of income, so soil, beds, equipment, and seeds will be provided at a low cost to participants, with free education from Extension staff and Master Gardeners.

As the community continues to face the ongoing impact of high inflation and rising food costs, home gardening remains a popular option for individuals who want to save money on produce and have a greater awareness of where their food comes from. In 2023, it is expected that even more individuals, including younger generations with little experience, will begin gardening. To support this growing interest in home gardening, Warren County Extension and Master Gardeners are providing regular education to ensure that all participants have the knowledge and skills to be successful.

Scholarships for youth interested in gardening are available, and the program aims to help individuals and families regardless of their experience level or personal income. To learn more about how you can maintain a plot at the Truesdale Community Garden, or if you have any questions related to your own home garden, contact MU Extension at 636-456-3444.
