Mr. Charles Wesley Denton, of Warrenton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home on Tuesday, June 10. He was born on June 8, 1932, to the late Sherman and Electa (nee: Thomas) Denton in Iberia, Mo. He had reached the age of 93 years.
Charles left home at the young age of 18, looking for work in the St. Louis area. There, he met and fell for the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Sonderen. They were united in marriage on February 23, 1952, in St. Louis. They celebrated 62 wonderful years together before her passing in 2014. This union was blessed with four children, Ted, Mary, Tom, and John. Charles loved to eat Jimmy Dean sandwiches and Hershey candy bars. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also looked forward to 4 o'clock beer time and watching Jeopardy on TV. Charles ultimately was a family man, and he thoroughly loved every minute spent with his children and grandchildren, as well as the rest of his family.
Charles Denton was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Denton; his parents, Sherman and Electa Denton; one son, Tom Denton; two sisters, Velma Vineyard and Emily Marsch; two brother in laws, Raymond Vineyard and Ralph Marsch. He is survived by his children, Ted Denton and wife Judy, Mary VanBibber and husband Dennis, John Denton and wife Jenny; eight grandchildren, Mike VanBibber and wife Jamie, Karen Larkin and husband Jason, Brad Cope, Janel Denton-Stewart and husband Ben, Nathan VanBibber, Jessica Denton, Nikki Liley and husband Josh, Matt Denton and wife Niki, Paige Borgmann and husband Keigan; five great grandchildren, Tyler VanBibber (Tori), Connor Larkin, Jackson Larkin, Braxten VanBibber and Logan Liley; one great - great grandchild, Bella VanBibber; six bonus grandchildren; one special daughter in law, Veronica; one brother in law, David Sonderen and wife Joan; a very loyal companion and friend, his dog, Ginger; other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton from 9 A.M. - 12 P.M. A service to honor Charles will begin at 12 P.M. with Pastor Wayne Pickering officiating. A burial will follow at the Warrenton City Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to Masses at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Warrenton.
