The annual Blue and Gold scholarship fundraiser for Wright City students will be an online event once again the year.
“Like so many others, we are not able to host our live event this year, and instead will be doing an online auction and selling raffle tickets,” said organizer Jackie Nierman.
Blue and Gold is the largest fundraiser for the Wright City High School Schorlarship Fund. The event normally draws hundreds of people for a dinner and auction. It was among the earliest casualties of COVID-related closures last year, and organizers say it’s not yet time to hold such large events in person again.
“Who would have thought that a pandemic would come along and spoil the fun for two years now?” organizers commented in a letter sent out to supports. “(But) the Blue and Gold committee feels it is important to continue our efforts to provide scholarships.”
The scholarship fund will host its online auction over the course of a week, starting Friday, March 12 and concluding Saturday, March 20. Up for grabs are naming rights to various school athletic facilities and entry drives, along with other items up for bids.
Tickets are also on sale now for two raffles ahead of the auction. For $20 per ticket, entrants have a chance to win a “COVID survival basket” filled with $200 in lottery tickets, plus alcohol and other goodies. Raffle tickets for Cardinals- and Blues-themed fire pits are on sale for the same price.
Tickets are being sold at Ivie League Homes, the FMB Bank drive-thru, FSCB Bank and American Bank, The Wright Hair Shop, and Wright City Hardware.
The drawing for the raffles will take place March 20.
Information for buying raffle tickets, donating directly, or participating in the online auction can all be found on the WCHS Scholarhip Fund Facebook page (@wchsblueandgold).
Donations can also be mailed directly to the WCHS Scholarship Fund, PO Box 428, Wright City, MO 63390. Those who donate over $50 by March 8 can also receive advertising during the auction and on Facebook.
