Moments before stepping onto the tee box, Shane Brosenne takes in some country music and sharpens his focus on the round ahead.

At the beginning of last week it was difficult for the Warrenton senior to keep his mind off the 36 holes that awaited him, as he competed in the MSHSAA Golf Championships at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin on Monday and Tuesday. It was his first time having qualified for the event during his three years as a varsity golfer for the Warriors.

At the completion of his first round on Monday, Brosenne was tied for 52nd, having shot an 85.

Having seen his dad and older brother play, Brosenne pursued his interest in golf during eighth grade. He had long played football since first grade and has experienced success on the gridiron, where he plays alongside younger brother Colton, and under the direction of older brother John, who is a coach for the Warriors.

Brosenne was one of the most involved players on the Warrenton football team in 2020, finding ways to contribute on nearly every play as a defensive back, kicker and wide receiver.

As a senior, he recorded 253 yards on 27 catches and contributed 20 extra-point kicks and one field goal. His longest career field goal was 42 yards, although he recalls nailing a 52-yard attempt during practice. Defensively, Brosenne had 52 tackles and made three fumble recoveries last fall.

With graduation on the horizon, he is looking forward to playing golf for William Woods University, while pursuing a degree in business management. Brosenne plans to build upon the landscaping business that he started last summer.

Q: What do you enjoy about playing golf?

“It’s always a different day. You always have to battle different types of course conditions and adversity. It’s just really fun to me.”

Q: What’s the strongest part of your game?

“Probably my strongest part is my irons.”

Q: What’s your career-best round?

“I shot a 73 to win the Warrenton Invitational. That was probably my best day of golf I’ve played in a long time.”

Q: What are your goals for the state tournament?

“I just want to play my own game and try to finish in the lower 40 of the 81 people.”

Q: If you could play any course in the world, where would you play?

“TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.”

Q: Who is your favorite PGA player?

“Jordan Spieth."

Q: What was your biggest accomplishment in football?

“Winning conference as a team this year. Individually, being all conference for defensive back and kicking.”

Q: How did you get into kicking?

“We had a competition in seventh grade to see who could kick the ball farthest, and I just stuck with it since then and kept practicing. The key is to keep practicing as much as possible and try to get a rhythm down, just like golf.”

Q: What made you want to start your own business?

“Ever since I was little, I liked cutting grass. I made it my dream to start my own company. I work for Dry Fork Lawn during the week and do my own on the weekends. I already know the working side of it. I just need to learn the business side of it.”

Q: What have you liked about growing up in Warrenton?”

“I like being in a small town and living out in the woods. In a lot of places you couldn’t really do that too much.”

Q: In what ways do you bring value to the world?

“I like to think I’m a hard worker, so I think that brings value to the world.”
