Agape provides gifts for 900 kids

This December, Agape organized the largest charity Christmas gift program in the county by providing gifts to over 900 local children in need.

Michelle Bernth, Agape executive director, said the program was the culmination of the hard work of dozens of volunteers and the extreme generosity of the community in which they operate. “The outpouring of support from our neighbors and our volunteers to ensure everyone can have gifts under their tree is truly the embodiment of the Christmas spirit,” Bernth said.

Agape’s Share-A-Christmas program provides gifts for children aged infant to 17 years. In addition to gifts, every child gets a book and every family receives a board game to share. Parents are also provided with stocking stuffers as well as crocheted hats and scarves from an area community group.

Demand for this program was greater this year than ever in the past. The increased demand has stretched Agape’s resources for this program to the max. “This year we gave out almost every toy that we have,” said Bernth. “We are worried that we won’t have enough items to help everyone next year without a groundswell of support from the community.”

Agape accepts gifts for their Share-A-Christmas program year-round. If you are interested in making a gift or monetary donation, you can contact Agape at 636-465-4645 or visit their website at AgapeMO.org.
