Even though there are still some weeks until Christmas, Agape is already hard at work to make sure every kid can have gifts on Christmas morning. Agape’s Share-A-Christmas program expects to serve more than 1,000 local kids this year.
“The need has grown dramatically in this county,” said Michelle Bernth, executive director at Agape. “Demand for all of our services, including the food pantry and Share-A-Christmas has increased. Right now the demand outweighs our resources, so we are counting on our community to step up and help us make Christmas happen for local kids.”
In Agape’s unique model, parents get to shop for their kids’ gifts in the Christmas Shop. According to Agape, it will take thousands of toys to serve this many kids. In addition to toys, each child receives a book, and each family receives a board game. Donations are needed for this program to be able to meet the high need in Warren County.
“People who want to help can make a financial donation on our website, as well as find links to our wish lists from Amazon, Walmart and Target,” said Bernth. “We are counting on the generosity of Warren County to help us with the enormous task of providing Christmas gifts to more than 1,000 kids.”
