Warriors, Wildcats qualify for sectional competitions

Track athletes for Warrenton and Wright City are a step closer to a state berth following their performance Saturday.

The Warriors had five individuals qualify for six events and two relay teams also kept their season alive at the Class 4, District 4 Meet held at Mexico High School.

Only the top-four finishers in each event qualified for sectionals, which is scheduled to be held this Saturday at Montgomery County High School. 

Dana Pruitt led the way for Warrenton. She placed fourth in both the pole vault (7 feet, 11.5 inches) and javelin (90 feet, 1 inch).  

Grace Bostic had a strong showing in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing second in 16.74 seconds.

Veronika Besser qualified in the 400 in 1:02.97, the third-fastest time.

Besser also was part of the 4x800 relay with Loren Howard, Brianna Grooms and Madelyn Marschel who placed third in 10:45.74.

The Warrenton boys team had two individuals and one relay team qualify. 

Joseph Evans and Kolby Meine each placed third in the high jump (5-7.75) and triple jump (39-6), respectively. 

The 4x100 relay team of William Reel, Jacob Parker, Evans and Meine placed fourth in 46.28.

Wildcats qualify in six events

The Wright City track team will be competing in six events at this Saturday’s sectional meet. 

Zoe Riggs led the way for the Wildcats, winning the 1,600 in 5:28.31 and placing second in the 800 in 2:24.09.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Elizabeth Riggs took second in 51.39.

Also qualifying for sectionals were three relay teams for the girls team. 

The 4x100 relay consisting of Kobie Griffitt, Teagen Riley, Taliyah Felton and Tristyn Moore finished third in 57.97.

The 4x400 relay comprised of Teagen Riley, Kobie Griffitt, Elizabeth Riggs and Zoe Riggs placed fourth in 4:37.55.

The foursome of Kaedyn Johnson, Samantha Finch, Elizabeth Riggs and Zoe Riggs placed fourth in the 4x800  in 11:28.43.

Saturday’s selectional meet will be held at Montgomery County High School. The top four finishers in each event will advance to the following week’s state meet.
