Warrenton, Wright City runners compete at Orchard Farm meet

Five cross country runners from Warrenton and Wright City placed in the top 20 at the Orchard Farm Invitational last Thursday.

Wright City junior Zoe Riggs had the best finish of the group, placing fourth in the girls race in 20 minutes, 44.22 seconds. The Warrenton duo of Camryn Petersmeyer and Madelyn Marschel followed in 15th and 17th in 23:01.54 and 23:09.71, respectively.

Trent Bruning of Wright City crossed the finish line in seventh in 17:56.75 in the boys race. Warrenton’s Wyatt Claiborne was 14th in 18:39.43.

In the team standings, the Warrenton girls placed fifth out of six schools. Others who competed for the Warriors were Mattison Halter (23rd, 24:31.39), Emma Lewis (37th, 27:56.95) and Gabby Scruggs (28:33.38).

The boys team finished sixth in the eight-team field. Warrenton’s other runners were Coalton Hill (25th, 20:26.06), Jacob Lange (35th, 22:26.25), Mark Thomas Diller (37th, 22:32.71), Thomas Hale (40th, 22:59.49) and Gus Klaustermeier (43rd, 23:28.92).

Wright City did not have enough runners to qualify as a team in the boys and girls divisions. Kaedyn Johnson was the lone other girl to compete for the Wildcat, placing 30th in 25:27.19. In the boys race, Jackson Mazella was 27th in 20:50.51 and Cailou Florian Muller-Williams was 29th in 20:59.76 for Wright City.

Montgomery County freshman Malia Rodgers won the girls race in 20:02.84, while Hillsboro’s Josh Allison took first in 16:18.59 in the boys division.
