Warrenton track and field teams open season

The Warrenton boys track team won two events and placed in the top three in five others at its season opener last week. 

The Warriors placed fifth out of 11 schools in the team standings with 75 points. North Callaway took first with 138 points. Owensville was second with 127 points and Montgomery County was third with 103.

Kolby Meine won the triple jumping, winning the event by leaping just over 39 feet. Meine also was part of the 400 relay team with Zach Bristol, Joe Evans and Jacob Parker that won in 47.87 seconds.

Parker had the team’s lone second-place medal, placing in the long jump in 19-3.25. Parker also placed third in the 100-meter dash in 11.99 seconds. 

He joined Bryce Reeves, William Reel and Bristol on the 800 relay team that placed third in 1:45.86. 

Evans also had two third-place medals in the 200 (23.95) and high jump (5-8.75).

Meanwhile, the Warrenton girls placed seventh out of 11 schools in the meet with 11 points.  

Owensville won the team title with 141.50 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Montgomery County (129) and North Callaway (83.50).

Veronika Besser had a first-place finish in the 400-meter run in 1:07.56. Teammate Madelyn Marschel was second in 1:09.78. 

In the 800, the duo again placed in the top three with Besser placing second in 2:47.90 and Marschel following in third in 2:52.84.

Grace Bostic also recorded a top-three finish. She was second in the 300 hurdles in 53.79. 

In the long jump, Ghini DeHart was seventh (14-5.25). Kassidy Haller placed sixth in the discus and seventh in the shot put.
