Sex offender charged for lying on registry

Warren County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a sex offender who vacated his job and address and then allegedly lied about it on his mandatory registration.

A warrant was issued April 21 for Donald R. Funke, 51, of Warrenton, for failure to register as a sex offender. He was arrested five days later, on April 26.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Department alleges that when Funke renewed his sex offender registration on Feb. 28 this year, he identified the Warrenton McDonalds as his workplace and a home on Columbus Circle as his residence.

However, when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to verify the registration information a week later, it was discovered that Funke had not been a McDonald’s employee for three months, and was kicked out of his home several weeks prior, according to law enforcement.

The sheriff’s department said Funke has four previous convictions for registration violations, three of which were in Warren County and one in St. Louis County. Funke was required to register as a sex offender following a 2001 sexual misconduct conviction in Warren County, according to the Missouri Sex Offender Registry.
