Jana Todd announces retirement

After nearly 14 years in the newspaper industry, Jana Todd will be retiring at the end of this month.

Todd’s final day at The Montgomery Standard will be Tuesday, June 30. She has been the general manager of The Standard since July 2018.

She previously was advertising manager at the Warren County Record, a position she held from 2006 to 2018. Over the past few months she has also assisted efforts at The Record since the publication was purchased by Westplex Media Group in October 2019.

Todd said she will miss the daily interactions with readers and advertisers.

“I have enjoyed my time in Montgomery County,” she said. “The people here have been kind and gracious to me. I will really miss them.

“The same goes with my time in Warrenton. I will miss the people and the advertisers. Over the years I have good memories of visits with the advertisers each week, whether I was working for the Missourian or Westplex Media. I have good memories of those visits. I also enjoyed coming up with special sections that met needs for the advertisers, then taking those needs and designing ads to suit. Time spent with advertisers gave me opportunities to meet new people and develop friendships with many of them.”

Publisher Tim Schmidt said Todd will be greatly missed.

“When I decided to get into newspaper ownership, I made the final decision knowing that Jana would be leading those efforts,” Schmidt commented. “Each week, she has always focused on publishing the best newspaper possible. She has been a great asset for our community newspapers and she leaves big shoes to fill.”

Over the years, Todd has earned many awards for developing marketing campaigns for local businesses and is a past president of the Missouri Advertising Managers Association.

“My time being associated with the Missouri Press Association and Missouri Ad Managers Association allowed me to learn from the best in the business. I’m thankful to have been president of the Missouri Ad Managers in 2012. With the ever-changing world of newspapers, it was a great opportunity to be around other newspaper people who had similar challenges.

“A special thanks to John Bradley, who taught me about selling newspaper ads. I also have fond memories of Kory Carpenter, Derrick Forsythe, Cindy Gladden, Amber Grant, Laura Mertens, Kim Brooks, Adam Rollins, Chris Waltz, Linda Geist, and of course, Tim Schmidt.

“Thank you to each and every one of you. You all have left me with amazing memories and I appreciate each of you!”

Prior to working at the newspapers, Todd was the owner of Kathryn’s Gift Shop and Florist in Warrenton and a professional photographer for a St. Louis area company and owner of Excellence in Photography.
