First COVID death confirmed in county

The Warren County Health Department today announced the first local death related to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The only information released about the COVID victim is that they were a Warren County resident who was over the age of 60.

“We offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends,” said health department Administrator Ruth Walters.

The health department said information confirming COVID-19 as a factor in the death was provided by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Health officials are urging the public to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by continuing to wear face masks in public, washing hands and disinfecting surfaces frequently, and avoiding large gatherings or events.

“Please follow instructions if you are asked to quarantine as a close contact to a positive case. These steps are vital to helping reduce the spread in our community,” the health department said in a press release.
