Former Warrior Clayton Schowe returned from college this summer to play for the Warrenton VFW Post 2180 Senior Legion team.
Schowe played baseball for Warrenton before graduating last spring, and he attended Lincoln Land Community College (Springfield, Ill.) this past school year on a livestock judging scholarship.
He hopes to play college baseball next spring, and he recently spoke with The Record after being named the June Athlete of the Month.
What’s it like being one of the older guys on this team? “It’s fun because I’m kind of the guy that has more responsibility to get things going.”
Favorite athlete: “Peyton Manning because I thought he was a great role model. His preparation was always the best.”
Do you have any superstitions? “If things are going well, I keep everything the same. I’ve worn a lot of stirrups this summer.”
Where do you see yourself in five years? “Probably still in school. I’m going to get my bachelor’s, and then I’ll probably get a master’s at least. I might get into ag. business and potentially law, but I’m not sure.”
What’s the last movie you watched? “I saw ‘Tag’ last night, and I’d recommend going to see that.”
Biggest fear: “I try not to think about fears too much, but I guess the fear of the unknown is the biggest for me.”
Who is one person you’d like to have dinner with? “(Professional bull rider) Lane Frost. When I was a kid, my dream was to be a professional bull rider. So when I was in kindergarten I watched his movie, ‘8 Seconds’ every night before bed. I pretty much had the movie memorized.”
What’s the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? “Either a nice car, or land to build a ranch on. I’d like to set it up exactly how I’d want things to roll.”
Favorite meal: “St. Elmo’s Steak House in Indianapolis. I’d get a ribeye, some fries and a triple chocolate fudge cake. You can’t go wrong there.”
