The Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Summer Carnival June 21-23.
The three-day event will be held on school grounds next to Wright City Middle School, 100 Bell Road.
Carnival hours are Friday 5-10 p.m., Saturday 1-10 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m. Attendance is free.
Kimberly Arbuthnot, president of the Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce, said the Summer Carnival is a response to the Chamber’s desire to create an activity for children and linked to the decades-old annual fall festival, Strassenbash which is held the third weekend of September each year at the Wright City Lions Club.
“The Chamber wants to make Strassenbash as family-friendly as possible. The Strassenbash committee, for the last three years, has tried to get a carnival at Strassenbash,” Arbuthnot said.
“Every year at Strassenbash we get the same complaint: There’s not enough things for kids to do,” she said.
Scheduling a carnival company in September proved challenging. June worked better.
“We were thrilled to get one this year in June,” she said.
The carnival will have four rides for children, four large rides and four “spectacular” rides. Tickets are required for rides.
Tickets are 25 for $20 in advance or $1.25 each or 22 for $20 at the event. Each ride costs two or three tickets each.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Abracadabra Hair and Tan Spa, American Bank, FMB Bank, First State Community Bank, Kelly Hill Shelter Insurance, Town & County Garage and Wright City Fire Protection District.
Popcorn, cotton candy and other fair-style foods will be available for purchase. Food vendors are expected. No merchandise vendors are scheduled.
Carnivalgoers can help those in need by bringing personal hygiene items.
“Friday night, Unite Wright City will be there with ambassadors from Strassenbash. They will be doing a personal hygiene drive,” Arbuthnot said.
Although coolers are discouraged, guests may bring snacks and drinks.
Alcohol and smoking are not permitted on school property.
Arbuthnot said even with the Summer Carnival event going on this year, Strassenbash will still be family-friendly. The daytime will be especially family-friendly. The evenings will be geared more for adults.
The carnival is operated by Tinsley’s Amusements.
