A local woman and child suffered injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near Mid Rivers Mall Drive on Thursday, May 16.
Melissa M. Surtin, 33, Wright City, sustained moderate injuries, and Sophia F. Surtin, 6, received minor injuries, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report. They were transported to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles.
Sophia Surtin was wearing a seat belt, while Melissa Surtin was not, the patrol said. The crash happened around 9:15 a.m.
The two were passengers in a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by Rory W. Surtin, 32, Wright City. According to the patrol report, Rory Surtin attempted to pass on the right side of a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of I-70.
He then attempted to change lanes in front of the vehicle. The rear of the Equinox struck the front of the other vehicle, a 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Robert H. Worstell, 37, Troy.
Rory Surtin and Worstell did not have any reported injuries. They were both wearing seat belts.
