Residents of the Lakeview Estates mobile home park are afraid that a former property manager may have embezzled tens of thousands of dollars.
Lakeview Estates is an age-restricted community just outside the western boundary of Warrenton on Highway MM.
Resident Tom Akers told The Record that he and his neighbors believe a former manager may have taken monthly rental checks and not paid them to the company that owns Lakeview Estates. The company, which is based in Texas, had recently fired the manager, Akers said.
He added that some residents fear there was suspicious activity surrounding manager-assisted purchases or sales of homes in the park.
“Anybody who bought their mobile home through the manager are going to come out losing money,” Akers said.
Residents are speculating that anywhere from $50,000 to more than $100,000 have disappeared, Akers added.
The Record contacted Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison about the allegations.
“We did meet with the owners of the development to initiate a criminal investigation,” Harrison said. “Because it’s an ongoing (investigation), I’m reluctant to comment on any of the specifics.”
The sheriff said the investigation is just beginning, and confirmed that the case involves alleged theft or embezzlement.
The name of the former manager has not been released because no charges have yet been filed.
